Local 310 Office

Background Information:

Local 310 is a chapter of the Laborers' International Union of North America (LIUNA), an organization headquartered in Washington, D.C., that boasts a membership of 850,000 throughout the United States and Canada.

History:

Local 310 was chartered on November 9, 1925. Throughout the decades, Local 310 continues to provide sought after, trained, reliable and competent laborers to every major construction site in our designated territory, to more than 500 signatory contractors. Our members tend numerous trades in the construction industry including carpenters, cement masons, bricklayers, plasterers, floor layers, operating engineers and plumbers. Local 310 laborers are found in supervisory positions in the industry, with increasing frequency in requests from contractors for overall responsibilities for major projects.

Local 310 provides qualified asbestos and hazardous waste abatement workers to the industry. Our members are found in supervisory positions in the industry and with increasing frequency having overall responsibility for major projects.

Local 310 is a major participant in and supporter of the Ohio Laborers' Training Center, where our members receive training in the latest techniques and certification programs in the construction industry. Our Training Center provides a residential campus like setting where our members can avail of an extensive curriculum ranging from one day to two week courses.

To meet the needs of the 21st century Local 310 has developed in conjunction with the Construction Employers Association, an Apprenticeship program. Apprentices are indentured into the program through an application, testing and interview/evaluation process. By getting on-the-job experience in all areas of Local 310's jurisdiction and receiving classroom education and hands on training at the Training Center, our apprentices and members will be well equipped to handle the ever changing demands of the construction industry. The local also holds 8 hour and 16 hour classes at the Union Hall when possible.

The present administration believes as Harold Avery did, quote “That we now have in place a method to mold and create a product. The end product, our future membership, must not be developed by accident but rather with a plan. We can no longer let someone join and see what develops. We must now select whom joins and see to it that they develop in directions that further the well being of our union and employers.”

Laborers' Local 310 office is located at 3250 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio 44115, not only does this serve as our headquarters but we also have tenants such as Cleveland North Shore Federation of Labor AFL-CIO, Cleveland Building and Construction Trades Council, Laborers' Local 1099, Elevator Constructors Local 17, the District Office of the International Association of Bridge Structural and Ornamental Iron Workers and Local 310 Fringe Benefits, Inc. Consequently our Union Hall is the venue for many high profile union and political gatherings and meetings. We are fortunate that our older members, retirees, and deceased members had the foresight and courage to undertake, fund and construct our headquarters when they did and we are grateful to them for their vision.
